Sotiris Sorogas, The Time of Memory in His Artistic Language
Sorogas exhibition at Goulandris Museum features a selection of Sotiris Sorogas’ work, a brilliant contemporary Greek painter. The dazzling white, the clear yet smooth lines, the beauty and even the size of the paintings make them truly captivating.
“Sotiris Sorogas’ painterly world is traced between light and darkness. White and black. The brilliant, dazzling white is spread across the surface of the canvas in order to form the spiritual space where the memories that are hidden behind decay will be directed and form the core of its essence.” [Source: Curation text from the exhibition, written by Kyriakos Koutsomallis]
“I often have the impression that all these years the paintings I have tried to paint, as well as their subjects themselves, are connected, despite their diversity, by a hidden or clear unity. This, I thin, arises from a chronic and unsurpassable, I would even say sick, obsession of mine to capture a moment in time, which is impossible, because time depends on a feeling of awareness of loss.” Sotiris Sorogas
All in all, Sorogas exhibition at Goulandris Museum in Athens is definitely worth a visit! The museum is located in the center of Athens, the exhibition is small so you can combine the visit with other things, and -most importantly- the work of this artist is an ode to the brilliant Greek light and more. You will certainly enjoy it!
